Project Overview: Virgin Hyperloop One was a revolutionary vision—a transportation system expected to achieve 670 mph, reducing travel times from San Francisco to Los Angeles from six hours to just 43 minutes. A second prototype, known as the Apex Test Track, was conceptualized as a full-scale Linear Vacuum Structure approximately 859 meters long. The goal was to test a cost-efficient solution for mass production using a Concrete Assembled Tube (CAT), comprised of U-shaped precast concrete segments assembled on site to form fully enclosed tubular spans. The company was officially shut down on December 21, 2023.
